Important Update:
In the latest version of the Celona Orchestrator (2406.1), the Device Groups page has been renamed as Device Profiles. Please refer to Device Profiles for all previous Device Group functionality and settings.

Introduction

Key differentiating factors of Celona’s integrated solution are -

  • Mapping Enterprise's existing networking and security policy infrastructure to private 4G and 5G devices

  • Deliver service level agreements (SLAs) per application per group of devices via MicroSlicing

One of the prerequisites for taking advantage of the above-mentioned features is categorizing your devices into device profiles (previously known as device groups).

Configuring a Device Profile

In the previous Orchestrator version, when a device was activated, the user was required to select an edge cluster manually. The device could only be activated within the edge clusters tied to the device profile’s network policies. This approach limited activation scope and flexibility.

From Orchestrator version 2406.1, with the updated device activation scope, activation is no longer tied to a single edge-cluster or manual selection.

Note: The activation scope is separated from device profiles and its network domain policies.

  • Users must now specify -

    • Authorized Sites (and by extension, edge clusters) during the device activation process.

    • Network Domain Policies during the device profile configuration.

As a result of this change, you will see “Device Profiles” replacing “Device Groups” on the left-navigation bar.

Upon clicking on the Device Profiles menu, you will see a list of Device Profiles. Clicking on the “Create Device Profile“ button on the top right will let you create a new device profile. Alternatively, clicking on the 3-dot menu from any row of the table lets you edit an existing device profile.

Notice that your “Default” Device profile that is associated with all edge clusters is shown at the top of the table. This allows you to specify a Network Domain for all edge clusters and cannot be edited or deleted.

Common Network Domain Policy

The Common Network Domain Policy is now a mandatory requirement when configuring a device profile. However, this requirement is optional for existing device profiles to ease the migration process.

If you choose to configure a new Device Profile, you can specify a common Network Domain that is associated with all the Edge Clusters in your network. This can be the “default“ Network Domain already configured on all of your Edge Clusters or it can be a new Network Domain that you configured. If you choose to do the latter, please ensure that this new Network Domain is configured on all your existing Edge Clusters.

Additionally, you can override this common policy by selecting specific Edge Clusters with specific Network Domains by clicking on the “Add Override“ button on the top of the Network Domain Policies table.

This updated workflow gives customers the flexibility to activate devices on any or all edge clusters within their network. It ensures that a network domain policy is always in place, either explicitly through specific network domain policies or implicitly through the common network policy, providing the necessary network domains for all edge clusters.

Adding and Removing Devices

The table of devices associated with this device profile are shown in the table at the bottom of the page. Devices can be added to this device profile by clicking on the “Add Devices“ button on the top right of the page. Devices can be removed from thie device profile by -

  • selecting one or more devices from the devices table

  • clicking on the “Remove Devices“ button on top of the table
