Setting up Edge Appliance via the Local Edge Manager

Using the Edge Appliance local management UI for initial setup

Written by Team Celona

Overview

During the initial setup of the Celona Edge Appliance, use the local edge manager web UI to configure:

  • DHCP/Static IP Mode

  • Provisioning Interface

  • LAN Interface

  • Hostname

Limited troubleshooting is available from this interface.

Getting Started

Power up and connect the Celona Edge Appliance to your network. The image below details which ports to use for each model.

Celona Edge Express

Celona Edge Enterprise v2

The 2 data ports labeled "RJ45 Port 1 & RJ45 Port 2" or "SFP Port 1 & SFP Port 2" should be connected to a gigabit trunk ports on your switch, connect the provisioning port directly to your laptop for initial configuration.

Note - 2 data ports should be used only if physical separation (Layer 3) of traffic from different device groups on separate network interface cards (NIC) is desired. For instance, if separate dedicated LAN infrastructure is in place to support IT and OT traffic. Please refer documentation here for more details.

Connect your laptop to the provisioning port

A DHCP server runs on the provisioning interface, so you do not need to configure a static IP address on the laptop connected to it.

  1. Connect your laptop's Ethernet port directly to the provisioning port of the Edge Appliance (see the port images above for your model).

  2. Make sure the laptop's wired network interface is set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).

  3. Confirm that the laptop receives an IP address in the 192.168.1.x range from the Edge Appliance. The router and DNS server shown for the interface will be 192.168.1.10.

Verify connectivity

Before opening a browser, confirm that the laptop can reach the Edge Appliance. From a terminal or command prompt, run:

ping 192.168.1.10

The ping must succeed before you proceed. If it fails, check the cable, confirm you are connected to the provisioning port, and confirm that the laptop received a 192.168.1.x address.

Open the Local Edge Manager

Open a web browser and go to https://192.168.1.10.

The Local Edge Manager uses a self-signed certificate, so your browser displays a security warning the first time you connect. This is expected. Expand the warning's advanced options and choose to continue to 192.168.1.10 (for example, Advanced → Accept the Risk and Continue or Advanced → Proceed to 192.168.1.10, depending on your browser).

The Local Edge Manager sign-in page shows the Edge Appliance serial number, which you can use to confirm you are connected to the intended appliance.

Sign in with the default credentials:

  • Username: admin

  • Password: Celona123

Update password

It is strongly recommended that you change the default password when first signing in.

While the default password is in use, Edge Manager opens the Change Password page and displays the banner "Default password is used. Please update the password." You can also reach this page at any time by selecting Change Password from the left-hand menu.

  1. Enter the current password in Old Password.

  2. Enter and confirm the new password in New Password and Confirm New Password. The new password must:

    • be at least 10 characters long

    • contain at least one uppercase letter

    • contain at least one lowercase letter

    • contain at least one number

    • contain at least one special character from $ @ ! % * ? &

  3. Click Submit. A notification confirms "Changed password successfully." Click OK.

4. Sign in to the Local Edge Manager again using the new password.

If the password change fails, Edge Manager shows one of the following messages:

  • Password does not match requirement — the new password does not meet the requirements listed above. Choose a password that meets all of them and submit again.

  • Failed to change password. Error: Old password does not match the record — the value entered in Old Password is incorrect. Re-enter the current password and submit again.

Health Check

The default landing page is the "Health Check" page. If no IP is assigned to the data interface, "Network Configuration" becomes the landing page.

AP specific health check is also added in the "Health Check" page. Health check page has been enhanced with the “corrective action” column as well.

Network Configuration

Configure Static or DHCP mode for the data connection to your LAN by selecting the Network Configuration menu item.

For DHCP mode, ensure the checkbox is marked and submitted. We recommend that the Celona Edge Appliance receive a reserved IP address.

Edge Manager is only accessible through the provisioning interface unless explicitly enabled on the data interface. To enable access via the data interface, select the “Enable edge manager on data interface” option on the Network Configuration page within Edge Manager.

Uncheck DHCP mode to enter your static IP address, IP gateway, and DNS info. For static addressing, configure the static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary DNS, optional secondary DNS, and NTP server(s). Management IP configures the address of the management interface. Edge Manager will prompt for a reboot if there is a change in the network or hostname provided. After the Edge Appliance completes booting, return to Health Check, click “Run Test,” and confirm that no checks show a Failed status.
