Feature Description

This feature enables users to onboard devices that have a static IP address allocated to them while still being reachable from the rest of the enterprise network.

This feature is supported on Celona private networks with Edge clusters running software version 2306 or higher.

Steps

  1. Create an external IP domain with static IP addressing scheme and pool of static IP addresses to use

    1. Log in to your account and navigate to the edge cluster details page.

    2. Click on the Add External Domain button.

    3. Enter a name for your IP domain.

    4. Click on the Add button to create your IP domain.

  2. Once your IP domain is created, you can edit it to modify the static IP address pool. Here are the steps to edit your IP domain

    1. Log in to your account and navigate to the edge cluster details page.

    2. Find the External IP domain you want to edit and click on the Edit icon button.

    3. Select Static as the IP addressing scheme.

    4. Add a static IP address pool to be uses for devices associated with the IP domain

    5. Click on the Update button to confirm the changes.

    6. Note - Static IP address pool for different IP domain should not overlap

  3. Next, create a device group for devices that should use static IP addressing scheme. Set the IP domain policy for the device group to the IP domain with static IP addressing scheme created in Step 2.

    1. Log in to your account and navigate to the device groups page.

    2. Click on the Create New button.

    3. Enter a name for your device group and select the devices you want to add.

    4. Select the IP domain that contains the static IP address pool you wish to use for your devices.

    5. Save your changes, and the device group will now use your selected IP domain.

  4. To set an explicit static IP address during activation, follow these steps:

    1. As part of the device activation workflow set an explicit static IP address for the device

    2. Note - This IP address must be part of the static IP address pool defined in the IP domain in Step 2

    3. Continue with the activation process and complete the setup of your device.

  5. Static IP address can also added or updated on on the device details page if you did not set a static IP address during activation.

Considerations

  • Static IP address allocated to the device can be set at the time of device activation or on the device details page post-activation

  • Static IP address provided by the user for device should be part of the device's IP domain static IP address pool list.

  • If an explicit static IP address is not provided, then the IP address service will automatically allocate an IP from the static IP address pool configured in the IP domain

  • Users cannot assign a static IP address not in the IP range assigned to the IP domain.

  • Users cannot assign the same static IP address to multiple devices.

  • If the user changes the device group of a single device, then the explicit static IP address on the device will be removed.

Note: Please note that gateways or routers connected using a Static IP address must be in pass-thru mode.
